Public invited to XWA Groundbreaking Oct. 10

The long-awaited start of the Williston Basin International Airport is finally here as the official groundbreaking of the $250 million facility is slated for Monday, October 10 on the approximate site of the eventual terminal. FAA, state and local elected officials will preside over the special ceremony, which is also open to the public.  "This is an historic chapter in the history book for Williston and we couldn't be more excited," said Howard Klug, long-time mayor of Williston. "Many people have worked very hard to bring us to this point in time and I thank them one and all." Read More

Vendors at Bakken Oil Show seem upbeat

The price of West Texas Intermediate crude flirted with the magic $50 number on Thursday, Oct. 6,
 and that fact was definitely lifting the corners of mouths into smiles at the Bakken Oil Products and Service Show. The two-day event was held at the Raymond Family Community Center in Williston.  Read More

Alva J. Field Trust donates additional $800,000 for WSC Scholarships

News Release

The Alva J. Field Trust has committed an additional $800,000 to continue funding the Williams County Graduate Scholarship. Graduates of a Williams County high school, regardless of the year, are eligible for free tuition and fees thanks to a partnership between the Alva J. Field Trust, WSC Foundation, and the ND Higher Education Challenge Fund. "For the Trust to donate this additional amount shows a real commitment to this idea over the course of the next several years," explained Terry Olson Executive Director WSC Foundation.  Read More

    Williams County approves trimmed down Budget; No Funding for Roads

    Williams County commissioners approved a slimmer version of last year's spending blueprint, slashing budgets across the board in order to meet a further anticipated decline in oil related revenue. On top of the cuts, there is no money in the $22.7 million estimated budget for roads,  Commissioner David Montgomery tells news radio, that Williams County highway supervisor Dennis Nelson will have to make do.

    Western Area Water Supply to serve Ray, Tioga soon

    The rural network will be powered by two "booster" stations, both of which are currently being constructed.
    Rural customers between Ray and Tioga are still on track to get water service from the R&T Water Supply Association before the end of the year. The buildout will connect hundreds of rural residents to the Western Area Water Supply Authority. The project is divided into several sections, some of which won't begin construction until further funding is in place. The R&T North Tioga Rural Distribution will come online in another four to five weeks, and that will bring water to residents between Ray and Tioga.  Read More

    Rural Fire Departments Support each other; Tioga donates Equipment to Center

    Rural volunteer fire departments have a hard enough time recruiting volunteers to fill their ranks. Equipping them, however, can be an additional challenge. Knowing the struggle, the Tioga Fire Department decided to help out a fellow rural department with a donation of valuable self-contained breathing apparatus units (SCBA). The units are used to provide oxygen and protect eyes when entering burning structures or other fire situations with heavy smoke.  Read More

    Williston Animal Control Shelter seeks Donations

    The Williston Police Department's Animal Control Center is seeking donations of dog food, cat food and cat litter. The donations may be dropped off at Home of Economy or Sloulin Field International Airport (402 Airport Road adjacent to the terminal). The pet supplies will help keep the animals healthy and happy during their stay.

"The Northwest has the largest increase in bird population of all our districts," says Aaron Robinson, Upland Game Supervisor with the state Game and Fish Department.     10/10           XWA Groundbreaking Ceremony
    The public is invited to attend the historic groundbreaking of the new Williston airport at 3:30 p.m. Transportation will be available. A bus will pick up and drop off riders at the Williston Area Recreation Center at 2:45 p.m. for the ceremony.

    10/13           Women in Leadership Expo
    Women in Leadership (WiL) will return to the Williston State College campus for its third annual Expo. Tickets are $59. News Release

    10/31            Trail of Treats
    The Williston Downtowners Association will sponsor its annual Trail of Treats on Halloween. The event allows children to trick or treat in a safe and supervised environment. Businesses interested in participating can call 701-580-9343.
