Construction on Williston Fire Station 3 progresses

Construction on Williston Fire Station 3 is moving along. The facility is located near the new Williston High School at 3300 37th St. W. Fire Station 3 is part of the Fire Department's expansion which also includes the newly opened Fire Station 2 and Falcon Training Center. Williston City Commission approves STAR Fund Grant for Affordable Housing

Forty-three two-bedroom apartments will see a drastic drop in monthly price to $600 per unit after Williston agreed to use its STAR Fund to help with funding. Developer George Gaukler sought to transition from a construction loan to permanent financing for two Dakota Apartment buildings, located behind the Badlands Town Center. To leverage $1 million from the Bank of North Dakota, he needed to secure $550,000 in city funding, which was accomplished Tuesday evening. The Flex PACE Interest Buydown program will allow Gaukler to commit a portion of the city's contribution toward rent subsidy, to hone in on the lower income needs.  Read More

STAR Fund helps New Dog Grooming Business open in Williston

Anna Denton had always dreamed of opening a dog grooming business, but until a year ago, she never thought she would live to see the day. Complications with an outpatient surgery faced Denton with a 25 percent chance to live. Instead of accepting defeat, she took those odds and assessed her life. "I really thought about what was important," she said. "I decided I was going back to school because I've always wanted to open a dog grooming business. To acquire the necessary certification she traveled to California. Read More

WSC helps Military Veterans adjust to College Life

Georgia native Andrew Shiffer had never left the United States until he was deployed to Iraq in 2008. "It was kind of an eye opening experience. I think we hit seven different countries on the way to Iraq," says Shiffer. While he hasn't ruled out a return to the military, Andrew is studying to be a physical education teacher at Williston State College. This past summer, the school created a Re-InVET Yourself Program to help veteran students adjust to college life. Read More

TrainND expands to Watford City

After years of local workers traveling to Williston for various workforce training, Watford City has cultivated its own site. Under an agreement to be finalized with the Watford City Park Board, Watford City economic development and Williston State College, TrainND-Northwest will offer workforce and oilfield training, an opportunity that has previously been available in Williston and Dickinson. For Gene Veeder, Watford City's economic development coordinator, the opening here is a good move. A new chapter is about to be written for Bowman's business sector. With the same grocers serving the community for decades, and from the same locations, Bowman shoppers were looking for something different. The opening of Bronson's Marketplace is a step in that direction. "We're pretty much right on track," said Kim Kessler, co-owner of Bronson's. She said they are expected to be in the new store around the third week of February. Read More

ND Renewable Energy Program accepting Grant Applications

The grant applications are due by Feb. 1, 2017.
The North Dakota Industrial Commission is currently accepting applications through February 1 for the North Dakota Renewable Energy Program. 
The program funds projects that involve research, development, marketing and education of renewable energy technologies and processes that have strong growth potential in North Dakota. The Legislature established the program in 2007. Read More
