Williston State College (WSC) operates as an accredited two-year public community college in the North Dakota University System. Additionally, WSC offers community education courses and workforce training through TrainND.
With Williston’s extensive growth over the past several years, there has been an increase in enrollment at WSC.
Enrollment has increased 13.24% from the Spring of 2014 to 1,009 students in the Spring of 2015. 89.49% of this record headcount comes from Montana and North Dakota. With a large number participating in WSC dual-credit programs with local high schools.
For Fall 2015, the Williams County Scholarship
has boosted applications 117%.
The scholarship provides free tuition, books and fees to any graduate of a William County High School regardless of the graduation year. Created out of a partnership between the Alva J. Field Trust, WSC Foundation and the ND Higher Education Challenge Fund, the scholarship was established to give back to the community.
Since creating their master plan in 2009, WSC has transformed its campus facilities.
The College has added 47,000 sq. ft. of new student housing with Frontier Hall, the primary dormitory in the Fall of 2011 and has renovated almost 10,000 sq. ft. of existing student housing. A 10,000 sq. ft. Science Center was completed in 2012. The Williston ARC, a 234,000-square-foot recreation center, was completed in the Spring of 2014. And most recently, a 34,000 sq. ft., $12.1 million renovation in Stevens Hall was completed in December 2014 that includes a new bookstore, cafeteria and learning commons.
In 2015 TrainND completed their Northwest Center, a $7.5 million training facility on the south side of Williston. WSC provided training in primarily safety and energy related fields to 381 businesses in 2014. New programs like crane certification directly addressed industry energy development needs. With over 16,000 participants attending training sessions in 2014, TrainND needed a facility to house the programs offered for the continued workforce growth of Williston and the surrounding area.
